Hunters Point in San Francisco was one of the major naval shipyards on the West Coast of the United States. Major components of the first atomic bomb were loaded onto the USS Indianapolis at Hunters Point in July 1945. After closing and falling into disrepair, the shipyard was infamous as a site of radioactive contamination. This photo was taken during an urban hike around 2005. The area is still undergoing a clean-up with plans for re-development.
